The EMEA Regional Chief Risk Officer (ECRO) is the senior accountable individual for the risk management operations of the EMEA region, including integration of risk concepts into strategic planning, and risk identification and mitigation activities.   
The position is a direct report of the Global Chief Risk Officer and EMEA CCO and is accountable amongst others to the Boards of Legal Entities within the EMEA region to enable the business to balance risk and reward through coordination of Enterprise Risk Management. The EMEA Regional CRO will enable the efficient and effective governance across all Lines of Business (LOB) of all categories of risk, including but not limited to, strategic, reputational, credit, market, and operational.   
The ECRO will coordinate closely with global functional risk owners (i.e., global LOB Chief Risk Officers as well as the global heads of Credit, Market, Operational and Technology Risks) and have local responsibility for supervising functional risk team members. The ECRO will provide leadership for all regional enterprise wide Risk employees to promote the concept of teamwork and to foster effective and efficient communication amongst and across risk disciplines, the regional senior leadership teams and with the U.S. Finally, the ECRO will also be the primary point of contact with local regulators on all risk-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Leadership
o Continue to build out and maintain a strong team by infusing new talent where appropriate to increase level of expertise in key areas and developing internal talent with a strong focus on succession planning
o Manage and mentor a large group of risk professionals with diverse backgrounds
o Establish best in class policies, procedures and processes for the risk organization
o Build a culture of accountability at the individual, team, business unit, and enterprise level
o Engage in regular reporting to the Risk Committees of the relevant Boards including review of company's risk appetite statement, significant financial or other risk exposures, transactional or trading limits, policies and practices, technology risk management programs and training including certification where needed
o Establish continuous thought leadership advancement and positioning both internally and externally

• Provide oversight and support to EMEA business unit activities and across all risk types

o Identifying emerging risks across all sectors and geographies and deep appreciation of wider political/technological/social pressure points scenario
o Developing, managing and refining qualitative and quantitative risk reporting which meets the needs of the Board, in order to support effective decision making
o Define limits for portfolios and businesses and ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place to monitor limits
o Create value and partner with businesses in transaction structuring decisions
o Enable implementation of proper checks, balances and control systems are in place across the enterprise's risk management organization
o Help develop and maintain a Regional Fraud Prevention framework addressing, pre-empting, neutralising fraud risk across the organisation
o Continue to build out operational risk capabilities as regulatory landscape evolves
o Harvesting, analysing and assessing risk information across the region
o Monitoring and analysing overall risk exposures of the business, including measuring all losses that the businesses in the region would experience under a variety of normal and extreme market conditions.
o Maintaining the company's risk profile and determining and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
o Providing guidance and insight across the full range of external risks.
o Utilizing and analysing data to model / monitor risk factors on an ongoing and pro-active basis.
o Identifying emerging risks across all sectors and geographies and deep appreciation of wider political/technological/social pressure points scenario

• Foster a high performance risk culture throughout the EMEA organisation

o Work closely with business line risk officers, business heads and in business control functions to integrate risk into all business decision processes and ensure appropriate risk taking across organization (i.e., not only within specific business line)
o Emphasize speedy resolution of issues (i.e., transaction approval process) and raising of potential issues
o Develop processes to address audit and regulatory issues quickly
o Position risk management as a value creation partner to help businesses leverage Client's risk capabilities as competitive advantages
o Establish continuous thought leadership advancement and positioning both internally and externally
o Improve reporting and oversight capabilities

• Engage in strategic agenda

o Communicate synthesized view of all risks and lead problem solving discussion at business unit, corporate and board levels
o Build and maintain an integrated risk management infrastructure that is commensurate with risk appetite
o Continuously assess, refine and improve a comprehensive risk architecture
o Improve risk modelling and metrics with additional quant-driven data that is used to make informed business decisions
o Gain the trust and confidence of the senior stakeholders on the Chairman's Forum and Legal Entity Boards that the Risk function is aligned to and can actively promote strategic goals
o Providing essential input as a member of senior management and credibly challenging the management of current issues and the development and implementation of strategy


Experience, Qualifications and Personal Skills Required
The successful candidate must be a proven leader with extensive business expertise, ideally gained within a large, sophisticated and globally dispersed financial services institution. 
This individual must be able to build upon a vision for risk management and communicate it effectively across a wide range of jurisdictions. 
The successful candidate will have first-hand in-depth knowledge of market, investment and enterprise risk methodologies and techniques, combined with significant experience in a risk leadership position within a global financial services institution. In additional the individual would need a demonstrable track record of identifying, assessing, monitoring and measuring operational risks across a complex business.
The breadth of the BNY Mellon business requires an individual attuned to market conditions, capital considerations and global macro risk factors. This must be combined with an ability to communicate and syndicate information across a global enterprise, building and maintaining relationships whilst pushing through decisions.
Job holder will have held progressively responsible and extensive risk leadership positions within a large financial services company within EMEA, including having reported directly to risk leadership at least at the Regional CRO level.
They will also have, amongst other technical skills and experience:

• A broad range of risk skills developed over an extended period of time

• Considerable knowledge and experience of best practice risk management and governance frameworks, methodologies, and emerging practice, in relation to the UK financial services context.

• Proven ability to oversee a number of risk types, including credit, market, operational, investment, regulatory and strategic risk.

• Strong regulatory background with proven experience of delivery of regulatory/strategic change

• Extensive knowledge of the regulatory environment and key regulatory regimes

• Proven ability to deliver successful remediation programmes

• Extensive experience of interactions with regulators and/or industry bodies

• Proven ability to make decisions and drive results in a dynamic, evolving and sometimes ambiguous environment

• A proven track record of establishing a proactive, constructive dialogue and partnering effectively with business leaders, peer infrastructure groups and regulators

• First class leadership skills - motivational, strong presence, with proven people management skills

• Able to think strategically and 'span' a geographically dispersed global financial services enterprise.
