The Brussels Settlement Department is responsible for following up security transactions on the European, African and Middle East locations (about 50 countries) as well as on the Euromarkets. The department is structured according to these regions. The different teams are in steady contact with the subcustodians banks, the legal expert banks in each country and our professional partners to investigate and solve settlement-related queries/issues.
The Settlements Agent is in charge of processing the settlement results on the markets he/she is responsible for and to perform daily checks to ensure all the daily tasks are performed within the deadline.
Key roles & Responsibilities
  • Process security transactions accurately and timely (settlement and update of reason codes)
  • Apply the market rules and the internal procedures to accommodate the client and the market needs.
  • Know and apply the general settlements procedures and the market specifics ones for GSP & CMS clients.
  • Read and understand the SLA and settlement section of the Securities market report.
  • Master several systems and perform the appropriate controls.
  • Adhere to the BNYM policy and comply with SAR and AML policies at all time.
  • Answer internal queries in a timely and efficient manner
  • Investigate queries with subcustodian to ensure trade settles in due time.

  • Uses simple judgment and defined procedures in straightforward situations.
  • The Settlement agent has to use defined procedure to resolve day-to-day issues and answers CSR or subcustodian s' queries.
  • S/He must be able to detect and escalate more complex problems to his/her Controller/Team Leader.

  • Small but direct impact on the business through the quality of the tasks/service provided by the individual.
  • Restricted to own team
  • The Settlement agent understands the impact of the timely and correct processing on the service provided to clients and the risks involved (claims, etc.).

  • Information exchange is a significant feature of the job.
  • The Settlement agent has good oral and written communication skills in order to communicate well with other BNYM areas or subcustodians.
