About Us

The Tax Team is part of the Finance Directorate within The Corporation of Lloyd's.

The Team manages the direct and indirect tax affairs of The Corporation of Lloyd's, provides support and assistance to Members on tax issues affecting them; manages the process for delivery of centralised Members' tax returns and payment in multiple jurisdictions and provides Members with consolidated tax information to enable them to comply with their UK tax obligations.

All parts of the Team liaise with UK and overseas tax authorities to ensure that the tax obligations managed by the Team are adequately and appropriately discharged and to ensure that the unique structure does not result in a tax disadvantage for the Corporation of Lloyd's or its Members.

This role is a maternity cover role for 9 months based in London.

The Role

To contribute to and influence the strategy of the Tax Team; to lead and be recognised internally and externally as an expert on the tax workstream of cross-Directorate projects and on tax matters affecting The Corporation and its Members; to lead, manage and inspire the resources of the Team to achieve agreed objectives and to manage work within agreed budgets.

What Will You Do?

  • Management of the process for timely delivery of the VAT return for The Corporation of Lloyd's;
  • Managing the process for timely delivery of centralised Members' premium tax returns and payments in multiple jurisdictions;
  • The provision of support to the market, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, on domestic and international tax issues (including new legislation) affecting the market and / or license development / defence and including the maintenance of Crystal content and queries;
  • Lobbying of, and liaison with, UK and other tax authorities, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, to try to ensure tax rules around the world do not disadvantage Members vs comparable organisations.
  • Lead, develop and be accountable for the performance of their team;
  • Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting and organisation;
  • Leading the provision of timely, complete and correct tax information and advice to other Teams in The Corporation, particularly in relation to domestic and international projects and large contracts.


What You'll Need

  • Solid and broad grounding in UK indirect and premium taxes;
  • An awareness of significant EU and non-EU issues;
  • Experience of dealing with tax authorities.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of relevant legislative provisions;
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and awareness of the Lloyd's market.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience;
  • Ability to manage several strands of work to a coherent conclusion and to translate into outcomes;
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to management of all stakeholders;
  • Ability to identify the need for and actively enable people-development in diverse teams.
